Van Gogh Sunflowers Note Cards SKU: 9780735319844
PRICE: $14.00
Van Gogh started painting sunflowers in Paris in 1887. The next August, after he had moved to Arles in southern France, he painted brighter versions and even decorated a guest bedroom for Paul Gaugin with several sunflower paintings.
Galison's Van Gogh Sunflowers Keep It Box of note cards holds ten cards that reproduce the painting Sunflowers, an 1888 oil on canvas painting of a large bunch of flowers in a vase. The painting, one of the earliest in the Arles series, is now in the Neue Pinakothek in Munich. The bright yellows of this painting were made possible by the availablity of vibrant new pigments such as chrome yellow.
The other ten cards reproduce a detail of the sunflowers heads. In a letter to his brother Theo, van Gogh noted that "the sunflower is mine in a way."
