These angels are a detail from the painting Angels Dancing Before the Sun by the 15th century Sienese painter Giovanni di Paolo. His paintings are in museums and collections all over the world, but this painting is from the Musee Conde, Chantilly, France.
Although di Paolo worked in the International Gothic style with elongated forms, these dancing angels seem less ethereal than other angels--you can see their legs within the drapery of their robes, and their wings are neatly streamlined.
The gold background of the painting is set off by the verdisgris-colored frame our designers have applied for the card.
