Galison's Christmas card The Archangel Gabriel reproduces a panel painting by Florentine artist Masolino da Panicale, originally known as Tommaso Di Cristofori Fini, who lived c. 1383-1435. He worked with Masaccio on two fresco cycles, and probably painted this panel c. 1430. This painting and two others by the same artist are now in the Early Renaissance section of the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
