Galison's Nuit de Noel Christmas card reproduces a collage of gouache-painted cut and pasted paper that Henri Matisse made very late in his career. The design was a study for a stained glass window for the stately Hotel Regina in the hilly area of Nice-Cimez.
Surely that's the Star of Bethlehem blazing in the sky on Christmas night.
Matisse's colorful design is crisp and very modern although it was created in 1952.
