Luis Melendez (1715-1780) was the premier still-life painter of 18th-century Spain. Galison's Luis Melendez Flavors of Spain portfolio holds three cards each of four image/recipe combinations:

  • Still Life with Figs and Bread, an oil on canvas from c. 1770 in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. Recipe: Figs with blue cheese and almond praline.
  • Still Life with Bread, Ham, Cheese, and Vegetables, an oil on canvas from c. 1770 in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Recipe: Cheese, figs, and ham.
  • Still Life with Oranges, Jars, and Boxes of Sweets, an oil on canvas from c. 1760-65 in the Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth. Recipe: Fennel with oranges and olives
  • Still Life with Melon and Pears, an oil on canvas from c. 1770 in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Recipe: Salad of melon, pear, artichoke, and chorizo
