The Artist's Muse Keepsake Box Note Cards SKU: 9780735328365
PRICE: $13.00
Galison's The Artist's Muse keepsake box holds 16 note cards with 4 images of pre-Raphaelite "stunners"--a term coined by painter Ford Maddox Brown for their favorite models and muses.
Details of four different paintings are reproduced on four cards each: The cover image, Choosing (Dame Ellen Terry), 1864, oil on strawboard from the National Portrait Gallery, London, shows a blonde young woman sniffying camelia-like red flowers; Marie Spartali Stillman's Love's Messenger, 1869, watercolor, tempera, and gold paint on paper from the Delaware Art Museum, shows a woman feeding a tethered white dove; John William Waterhouse's The Soul of the Rose, 1908, is an oil on canvas from a private collection; and the original stunner, Elizabeth Siddal, with her flowing vivid red hair poses next to an ornate harp in Dante Gabriel Rossetti's La Ghirlandata, 1873, an oil on canvas from the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.
The sturdy decorative box holds cards and envelopes neatly, and when the cards have been sent, it's great for storing all sorts of little things--from extra buttons to pearls.
