This collection brings together journals and notebooks that use the same artist collaborations and design sensibility you'll find across the rest of the Galison catalog - Liberty London florals, Christian Lacroix prints, William Morris botanical patterns, Frank Lloyd Wright geometry, and other artist-driven designs applied to covers you'll actually want to carry around.
The range covers several formats and sizes depending on how you use a notebook - daily writing, travel journaling, quick notes, or gift-giving.
The embroidered journals are the standout format in this collection. Each cover is handmade with embroidered textile artwork - not a printed image of embroidery, but actual stitched fabric on the cover.
These are the most gift-worthy journals in the collection. The handmade embroidery makes them feel like a crafted object rather than a mass-produced notebook.
A5 (roughly 5.5 x 8.5 inches) is the most common size in the collection. These fit in a bag or large pocket and offer enough page space for daily writing, meeting notes, or journaling.
Within the A5 range, there are two binding styles:
The layflat binding is worth noting if you write in your journal daily. Standard-bound notebooks resist lying flat, especially when new, which can make writing near the inner margin awkward. Layflat solves this.
Wire-O journals use a spiral-style metal binding that lets the notebook fold completely back on itself. This makes them practical for smaller surfaces - you can fold the cover behind the open page and write with one hand if needed.
For travel-specific use, the collection includes compact travel journals from Christian Lacroix with durable PU and embossed covers designed to survive being tossed into bags. The Bird's Sinfonia and Black Paseo Heritage designs are sized to fit in a jacket pocket or small crossbody bag.
Writers notebook sets bundle multiple slim notebooks together - usually three different cover designs in one pack. Liberty London and Joy Laforme both offer these. They work well for people who like to separate different types of writing (work, personal, creative) into different notebooks.
Christian Lacroix also contributes die-cut notebooks and A6 formats for people who prefer smaller, more portable options.
Notebooks are one of the easiest gifts to get right because nearly everyone uses them in some form. The artist-designed covers here elevate them beyond generic stationery.
