Paint By Number Kits for Adults

This collection includes two product types: paint by number kits with pre-printed canvas boards, and paint-in print card sets with watercolor-activated designs. Both are structured painting activities - you follow marked sections and numbered color guides rather than painting freehand.

No prior painting experience is needed. Each kit includes all the materials required to finish the piece, and the numbered sections tell you exactly which color goes where.

Paint By Number Kits: What's in the Box

Each paint by number kit includes a canvas board with a pre-printed line drawing divided into numbered sections, a set of acrylic paints matched to those numbers, and a wooden-handle paintbrush. You paint each section with the corresponding color, and the full image emerges as you fill in the canvas.

The kits come in two canvas sizes:

  • 11 x 14 inches: The larger format, used for the Andy Warhol designs, Frank Lloyd Wright designs, and a few illustrated subjects. The box size is approximately 8.25 x 10.25 inches.
  • 9 x 12 inches: A slightly smaller canvas used for Liberty London patterns, William Morris patterns, and other illustrated designs.

Both sizes produce a finished painting that's ready to frame and hang. The acrylic paints dry with a matte-to-satin finish and don't require any fixative or sealant.

What Designs Are Available?

The paint by number kits cover a wide range of visual styles, from pop art to textile patterns to illustrated scenes.

  • Andy Warhol: Two kits featuring Warhol's Marilyn Monroe portrait and Campbell's Soup Can - both iconic pop art images translated into paint by number format
  • Frank Lloyd Wright: Two kits with Wright's architectural and decorative designs, including the Saguaro Cactus and Forms pattern and March Balloons
  • Liberty London: Three kits featuring different Liberty textile patterns (Thorpe, Glastonbury, and Prospect Road) - the floral and botanical fabric prints adapted to canvas
  • William Morris: The Brother Rabbit pattern, originally designed in 1882, featuring rabbits, birds, and botanical elements
  • Other designs: A holiday-themed kit by Joy Laforme, a tropical vase by Kitty McCall, a beach scene, and an animal portrait

Paint-In Print Sets: A Different Format

The three paint-in print sets work differently from the canvas kits. Each set includes six cards with an outlined design printed on the front and paint colors embedded directly into the top of the card. You activate the paint by wetting a brush and rubbing it on the embedded color strip - no separate paint pots or tubes needed.

The designs come from Frank Lloyd Wright, Liberty London, and William Morris. Unlike the paint by number kits where each section has an assigned color, the paint-in sets give you six colors and let you choose where to apply them. The result is more open-ended - two people working from the same card will produce different finished pieces.

These sets are more portable and quicker to complete than the canvas kits. Each card takes 15-30 minutes, and you don't need a separate workspace or water cup setup.

How Long Does a Paint By Number Kit Take?

A full canvas kit takes several hours to complete, spread across multiple sessions. Most people work on them 30-60 minutes at a time, letting sections dry between sessions. The total time depends on the detail level of the design and how carefully you paint.

  • 9 x 12 inch kits: Roughly 3-6 hours total
  • 11 x 14 inch kits: Roughly 5-10 hours total
  • Paint-in print cards: 15-30 minutes per card

The acrylic paints dry quickly, so you can work adjacent sections without long waits. Many people treat these kits as an ongoing project to return to over several evenings.

Are Paint By Number Kits Good Gifts?

Yes - they're self-contained and don't require any additional supplies. The box includes everything the recipient needs to start painting immediately. The range of artist and design themes makes it straightforward to match a kit to someone's interests: pop art fans get the Warhol kits, architecture enthusiasts get Frank Lloyd Wright, textile and pattern lovers get Liberty London or William Morris.

The paint-in print sets are especially practical as gifts because they're compact, lower commitment, and don't require a dedicated workspace.
